Variety improvement is a Global quest: Clones (Sports) of a variety are sought for better colour etc.

Balancing supply with sales is a critical element of growing & marketing JAZZ TM

Way back in the early days when all JAZZ TM were grown/sourced in New Zealand and developing a global source/demand was the priority, the 'equation was straight forward' - 'now in 2024 the source (country) balance has changed. The original JAZZ TM source (NZ) supply is decreasing as the early orchards of JAZZ are old and being grubbed. New varieties have been bred (NZ is a leader in new variety development) and less JAZZ are being replanted; replaced by new varieties.

New Zealand also is a big exporter to ASIA. So JAZZ TM sold in the UK are moving towards an 8-9 month Northern Hemisphere and a 3-4 month Southern Hemisphere supply.

Below: WFL has also been involved in tree management trials. 2D (2 dimensional) is very much in vogue, delivering increased light interception enhancing fruit bud quality and increased red colour on the apples

The English Apple Man Comments

Even after two parts to the Jazz Symposium story, I have really only 'scratched the surface' - the symposium was so comprehensive, with growing practices, mineral plant needs, storage regimes and store monitoring data, and extensive analytical data.

That is all for this week

Take care
